A little over a week ago I decided to surprised my best friend, Michelle, for her birthday. I had a blast, but I squeezed a little bit of work at the end of the trip. If you’ve been following my blog you’ll know that last year Michelle volunteered to model for me and that’s what sparked my interest in fashion/glamour photography. So naturally I was excited to photograph her again after no doing so since February of this year.
I had originally packed my strobes to take with me but it made my suitcase over weight and I didn’t have $100 to dish out on the extra fee. So unfortunately I had to settle for bringing a flash and my reflector. I thought we would do it in daylight anyway so it didn’t matter. Little did I know it gets dark about half an hour earlier in New Jersey than in Florida so the shoot ended up being at night.
I was at the start a little frustrated because I couldn’t get the light at the angle I wanted to create the shadows I wanted. I thought the whole shoot was a bust, but then I thought about fashion editorials I had seen with harsh shadows and almost a “point and shoot” look so I decided to try it. And you know, the style is growing on me a little.. Needless to say it was freezing up there for this Floridian so the shoot was only about 20 minutes long.. Here they are:
